July 31, 1954, wedding of Carasiolo Maestas and Alice López. Padrinos Joe and Pita Montoya. Padre Casemiro Roca, S.F. is the celebrant who was first assigned at Santa Cruz before his long tenure as pastor at Chimayó.

Beatified with 19 Martyrs of the Sons of the Holy Family

Thousands of priests, nuns, and faithful Catholics were martyred during the Spanish Civil War
(1936-1939). Among them were twenty Sons of the Holy Family, the religious congregation which
serves at Santa Cruz de la Cañada Parish, and the Holy Family Parish which includes the Santuario de Chimayó.

In the 1950’s, Father Casimiro Roca, S.F., left his religious community of Santa Cruz de la Cañada to start a new parish nearby for families and missions of the Chimayó Valley. Ever since then, the life of Fr. Casimiro Roca has been linked to the Santuario de Chimayó.

One of his brothers, Pedro Roca, S.F., is part of the group of 19 martyrs (18 religious and layman
Sebastián Llorens), who shared the spirituality and mission of the Sons of the Holy Family and were beatified on October 27, 2013.

2nd edition of parish book coming soon!

A committee of parish volunteers, with deep knowledge of area history, is finalizing the reprinting of the book titled "La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Cañada, 2nd Edition”. The original book, published in 1983, is now a collector’s item, out of print, and is in much demand. An addendum to this book will include articles and photographs of our historic church and parish from 1983 - 2015. The book will also include a DVD showcasing our unique music, religious art, current renovations, and many other parish activities.
